Beautiful blog site. My aunt received an award from the President for her combat knitting during WWII. I wouldn’t be surprised if many women did. In later years, she spent her days repairing knitted costumes for west coast movies.
Thank you Carol, what a wonderful memory of your Aunt! Going back to the Revolutionary War, home knitters played an important part in clothing and supplying the troops. That was true of every US war through WWII, after that the military switched to the almost exclusive use of machine made socks. However, there are still several groups that knit for soldiers and veterans.
